When the Skies Clear

We all have dark days in our homeschool journey. We all wonder if we’re doing enough, saying enough, teaching enough, researching enough, and just simply wondering if enough is enough. Our skies look like a storm is coming and we fight to try and prepare for them, dodge them for all of three seconds, or to avoid them altogether. There’s one thing we have to remember, though–storms don’t last forever and the skies will clear!

When the skies clear, it’s time to get after it! You’ve weathered through and made your plan. It’s time to work that plan now. When you work your plan, you’re preparing yourself for any other time those skies may become dark and gray.

When the skies clear, it’s time to rebuild or even go back to the drawing board for some. It’s okay to take a breather and rethink your existence! We all need to every now and then. It doesn’t hurt one bit.

When the skies clear, it’s time to refocus and remember what your goals are, what you are trying to accomplish, and where you want to be. Dust yourself off!

When the skies clear, it’s time to rekindle those family relationships. They need to know that the storm is over and that things are going to be okay, even if only for a short amount of time. They need to see that you have it at least halfway together so the walls won’t completely fall down around them.

When the skies clear, BREATHE, cry, or whatever you have to do to keep going! Don’t let the storm make you pack up and look for higher ground because then you will find yourself picking up the pieces and losing valuable time.

When the skies clear, be thankful most of all. There’s a reason why the storm ended…it simply ended. It’s time for you to move on. Keep pressing! Faithfulness Pays!

I have been homeschooling since 2008, and I have worked in many different facets of education from daycare to college as a childcare worker, tutor, teacher's assistant, college and career advisor, financial aid counselor, and administrator. In addition to homeschooling, I also do homeschool consulting and tutoring. I am a member of the Crossroads Baptist Church where I serve in the choir, nursery, and King's Daughters ministries. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, writing, and creating educational materials such as lesson plans, books and board games.
