Anyone feel like their year has just been awful? Nothing seems to be going right? You have? I have too! I am not a person that works well under pressure or stress, in fact I completely shut down. I am learning how to PRESS forward when things don’t go according to plan or when everything going on around me starts to become “noise”. It has taken me a long time to figure how to PRESS forward in the midst of chaos, in fact I am actually still in practice/learn mode but I figured I would share some tips on how to pick yourself up when you are not having such a good year, month, week, or day.
- Sing…. it doesn’t matter if you have a voice like Whitney Houston or if you sound like nails on a chalkboard. SING! Sing a song that makes you happy, sing a song that is uplifting and encouraging. Sing and keep on singing because one thing is for sure if the song doesn’t get you to feeling better, laughing at yourself sure will.
- Dance….Got 2 left feet? Even better, laughing is the best medicine. Turn your music up as loud as you can (right before someone calls the cops on you) and just dance, dance and dance some more.
- Create…. I like to write, and once upon a time I was taking a pottery class that I really enjoyed, so much so that I am thinking about purchasing a pottery wheel and a small kiln so I can sit and CREATE pieces. I truly believe that your best work comes out in times of despair, hurt, confusion….RAW emotion. So tap into the artist that is in you, I think that we all have it in us we just have to find what we are really passionate about and DO IT!!
- Self Talk or Pep Talk Yourself UP….Truth is, we can be our own worse critic and even a pep talk from someone close won’t help us, and that is when YOU need to talk to yourself. Compliment yourself, encourage yourself….SPEAK LIFE into your situation. It is easy to get yourself into a pity hole but boy is it hard to pull yourself out, this is when you need to be your own CHEERLEADER!
- Lastly, Pray….I don’t pray nearly as much as I should but when I do some RAW praying, holding back nothing, sobbing, crying out to Jesus kind of praying….I definitely feel better. Sometimes you will have to pray yourself through an entire day and that is fine, that is what he is there for.
These are just some things that I found to help me when I am feeling down and I hope that they help you as well, out of it all BE ENCOURAGED!
